Joan MacDonald, Founder and CEO, is a recent amputee who’s so excited to share Socket Socks covers with the world. Her goal is to support & encourage all amputees to stand up with pride in themselves and to embrace the new life they are facing. Joan didn’t want to hide her prosthetic and was proud of all that she overcame to get to where she is today! Wearing these fun covers has changed the way people look at her prosthetic, kids even love the fun designs. It creates a positive conversation.
Her Mission is to inspire amputees around the world with comfortable and affordable prosthetic FASHION covers. It is our desire that on a daily basis that amputees stand up within their communities with Courage, Confidence and STYLE.
Mission Gait was launched to empower the physical rehabilitation community, through education and research. We envision a world in which physical therapists everywhere can acquire the knowledge and skills to help patients with complex gait disabilities learn to move again with confidence.
Mission Gait seeks to change forever how rehabilitation is provided to patients with complex gait disabilities. We can achieve self-sustaining change by 2036, and the roadmap to get there is as unique, simple, and effective as the model it promotes.
Our mission is to make outpatient physical and occupational therapy possible for amputees needing financial support, while promoting wellness in body, mind and spirit.
Multiple studies show that amputees who receive physical and occupational therapy within the first year of the amputation do much better in life and are more apt to wear their prosthesis more often, and for longer periods each day. They ambulate from place-to-place more independently, often without an assistive device.
In addition, their self-esteem is higher and this can improve overall quality of life.
